Janet Napolitano on Crime

Democratic AZ Governor; Designee for Secretary of Homeland Security

Supports the death penalty; amend statutes to allow it

Q: What is Janet’s position on the death penalty?

A: I support the death penalty. Recently, the United States Supreme Court held that our statute is unconstitutional because a judge, rather than a jury, sentences the defendant to death. Arizona should enact the changes that I, fifteen County Attorneys, and victims groups support during the pending special session. This bill will amend our statute to allow only a jury to find and impose the death penalty.
