Supports first-in-time first-in-right water usage

Q: 39 states expect some level of water shortage over the next decade. What policies would you support to meet demand for water resources?

A: I am an irrigator and a rancher. You know I will protect our valuable water! I am proud to have received the Friend of Agriculture Award for years of dedicated support to Idaho agriculture. The first-in-time first-in-right doctrine has worked well in Idaho for over 100 years and I support that.

Wolf population has recovered; delist as Endangered Species

Gov. Risch met with the US Fish & Wildlife Director regarding the delisting of wolves in Idaho. Gov. Risch was promised notice in the Federal Register at the end of January to begin the delisting process that will remove federal protection for wolves under the Endangered Species Act. ID & MT have had management plans in place for their wolf populations that have far exceeded recovery goals. "The wolf population has fully recovered and Idaho is prepared to manage the species," said Risch.
